Lewisporte

Driving along the Road to the Isles you will arrive in Lewisporte, it is the largest community on Route 340 and it has a picturesque harbour. Lewisporte was discovered in the late 1800's by European settlers and it received its name from an enterprising Scotsman by the name of Lewis Miller, who established sawmills in Central Newfoundland and used Lewisporte as a shipping yard. Lewisporte also has interesting attractions such as the Train Park and the Marina Complex. Continuing on Route 430 you will pass by many communities such as the Bay of Exploits, Stanhope, Brown's Arm, Embree, and Little Burnt Bay. Also on the Road to the Isles is Cambellton, which is alongside Indian Arm River which is a prolific Atlantic Salmon river with available guides, also Cambellton has areas to pick strawberries and rasberries in season.
